Wi-Fi Seeker

A nifty new device to check if there is a nearby Wi-Fi Hostspot....
It is relatively easy to get information about wireless access points with a resource like, but sometimes more difficult to find the spot at such a location with a good signal.

WiFiSeeker Most people don't like running around with a laptop on their arms looking for a place with an optimal signal. Wifiseeker is a small smart device to find wireless networks. Its very simple to use, just push the button and the LEDs start running back and forth showing that the devices is scanning. After less than half a second you'll know if there is something or not. The number of LEDs signifies the signal strength. If the LEDs don't stop no network can be found. Wifiseeker detects the most commonly used networks: 802.11b and 802.11g. A key feature is that it can differentiate other network types and WLAN clients.

We found that wifiseeker is very easy to use and very handy. If the device detects a signal you can be sure that you'll get a good connection. A wireless network scanner on your laptop will probably find networks with lower signals, but these are maybe too weak to use. If you are in an area with different networks you will get the one with the strongest signal. A slight drawback is that the device cannot select networks nor give you more detailed information about a network. Really useful is the fact that wifiseeker is directional. It gives you a good idea where a basestation is located when pointing around with the device or you may even able to track down the basestation.

You may want to use the device to find the most comfortable place with a good connection before unpacking your laptop. Or you can use it to find the optimal placement of your wireless setup at home.
